What is 'The Lost Bus' about?
Apple TV+
If you’re a fan of gripping high-stakes drama with a dash of national disaster tossed in, you need to scoot your boot over to the trailer Apple+ just dropped.
The Lost Bus is the adrenaline-packed story of two everyday citizens who risk it all to save the lives of 22 school children. When wildfires broke out, everybody else ran -- but not bus driver Kevin McCay and teacher Mary Ludwig.
Directed by Paul Greengrass, this movie is about more than the white-knuckle terror of driving a bus full of children through uncontrolled wildfires with no way out (though that’s certainly a part of it). It’s also a story about how ordinary people can do exceptional things when they are confronted with dangerous situations that appear very much beyond their control.
Is 'The Lost Bus' based on a true story?
The Lost Bus is based on a book by Lizzie Johnson, published in 2021. That said, her book, Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire, tells the story of absolutely true events that took place in Butte County, northern California, during the 2018 California Camp Fire.
The fire itself was caused when a faulty power line tossed sparks and grew into a devastating natural disaster that killed more than 85 people and injured many others. But it’s not just a story about a physical loss; it’s the story about the horrors one town endured, and the emotional strength and community that brought them back.
Who in 'The Lost Bus' cast?
Playing the roles of the bus driver and the teacher are none other than Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera. If you think it’s been a while since you’ve seen Oscar winner McConaughey, you’re right! This is his first leading role in a minute, and he’s coming back all cylinders firing! It’s sure to be thrilling to see how he and Ferrera pair up to save the day.
The cast list includes:
- Matthew McConaughey (How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days)
- America Ferrera(Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants)
- Yul Vazquez (Severance)
- Ashlie Atkinson (The Gilded Age)
Where was 'The Lost Bus' filmed?
Apple TV+
Rather than film the movie in the location where the fires happened in California, the shooting of The Lost Bus took place in New Mexico. Given the similarity between the landscapes of the states, it’s a filming move that makes sense.
