'Yellowjackets' Season 4 Is Coming — Despite Season 3's Awful Rotten Tomatoes Score

Despite season 3 receiving the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score of the series so far, Yellowjacketshas officially been renewed for season 4. Yes, the wilderness saga isn’t over just yet—and Showtime seems committed to letting the buzzy survival drama finish on its own terms.
Collider broke the news, confirming that the Emmy-nominated show will continue despite a noticeably weaker response from the public for its most recent season. While Season 1 earned widespread acclaim and season 2 mostly held up, season 3 saw a steep decline in enthusiasm. But even with that dip, the show's loyal fanbase and strong streaming numbers clearly made enough of a case for the network to green-light more.
This renewal likely brings the show one step closer to the five-season plan initially mapped out by co-creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson. Here's what to know!

Why didn't fans like 'Yellowjackets' season 3?
Showtime
It’s been noted that season 3 wrapped production earlier this year after delays caused by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. And while the third season reportedly leaned more into the psychological fallout than pure survival horror, it still delivered the same eerie atmosphere and layered performances fans have come to expect.
Regardless, the season didn’t land with quite the same punch. According to Collider, some critics felt it was too slow or disjointed, with major character moments feeling more like a setup than a payoff.
Showtime
Yet others praised the finale, calling it intense and emotionally raw, especially as the adult Yellowjackets began reckoning with what really happened in the woods. Even so, the Rotten Tomatoes score slipped to the series’ lowest yet — a sign that not everyone was sold on the show’s current direction. This has come as a surprise to many, given the overall success of the series.
When is 'Yellowjackets' season 4 coming out?
Showtime
The good news? There’s still time to course-correct. Showtime hasn’t announced a release window yet for season 4, but with the strikes now over and production back on track, it’s expected to begin filming later this year. That puts a likely release date sometime in late 2026.
Even though the wilderness timeline remains a mystery box of cults, cannibalism, and creeping dread, fans are equally invested in seeing where the adult versions of these characters go from here. The renewal means we'll (hopefully) get the answers to questions the show has been teasing since episode one.

Whether you're still Team Lottie or trying to make sense of Taissa’s blackouts, one thing’s clear: Yellowjacketsis far from done. And with season 4 on the way, the hive lives on — antlers, secrets, trauma, and all. It’s the kind of show that thrives in chaos, where every eerie symbol and unspoken glance feels like a breadcrumb leading to something bigger. Even when it feels like we’re spiraling, we can’t look away, and honestly, we don’t want to.
